Micah 7 reverberates into today…

Micah 7:

2 The godly have been destroyed from the land,
there is no one upright among humankind.
They all lie in wait for blood,
each hunts his brother with a net.

3 Their hands do evil well.
The prince makes his request,
the judge grants it for a price,
and the great man expresses his evil desires —
thus they weave it together.

4 The best of them is a briar,
the most upright worse than a thorn hedge.
The time of your watchmen — of your punishment — has come;
now they will be confused.

5 Don’t trust in your neighbor;
don’t put confidence in a close friend;
shut the gates of your mouth even from [your wife],
lying there with you in bed.

6 For a son insults his father,
a daughter rises against her mother,
daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law —
a person’s enemies are the members of his own household.

7 But as for me, I will look to Adonai,
I will wait for the God of my salvation;
my God will hear me. (CJB)

  1. Amo 5:6)  Seek Adonai, and live—lest He rush like fire through the house of Joseph. Yes, it will devour Bethel, with no one to quench it.
    Amo 5:7)  You who turn justice to wormwood threw righteousness to the ground.
    Amo 5:8)  He who made the Pleiades and Orion and changes deep darkness to morning. Who darkens the day into night. Who summons the water of the sea and pours it out on the face of the earth—Adonai is His Name.
    Amo 5:9)  He flashes destruction on the mighty, so destruction will come against a fortress.
    Amo 5:10)  They despise one who reproves at the gate, so they detest one who speaks with integrity.
    Amo 5:11)  Therefore, because you trample on the poor, exacting from him a burden of grain, you built houses of hewn stone, but will not dwell in them, you planted pleasant vineyards, but will not drink their wine.
    Amo 5:12)  For I know your crimes are many and your sins countless—afflicting the righteous, taking bribes, and turning the needy aside at the gate.
    Amo 5:13)  Therefore the prudent keep silent at such a time—for it is a distressful time.
    Amo 5:14)  Seek good and not evil, so you may live, and so Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot may be with you—just as you said!
    Amo 5:15)  Hate evil, love good, maintain justice at the gate. Maybe Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot will extend grace to Joseph’s remnant.
    Amo 5:16)  Therefore thus said Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot, my Lord: “There will be wailing in all plazas and in all streets. They will say: ‘Alas! Alas!’ The farmer will be called to mourning along with those who know the lamentation song.
    Amo 5:17)  In all vineyards will be wailing, for I will pass through your midst”—Adonai has spoken.

  2. It's frightening seeing the news stories about mothers and fathers who murder their own children, often with acts of deranged abuse! And children killing everyone in their families! In Idaho there's the Lori Vallow Daybell case. No one has seen her son and daughter since September and she didn't reveal any information as to where they are. Everyday I hope to find out their fate, but I'm also afraid the story is going to be horrible.
