“Grace” a permit to sin?

I read a post by a devout Christian who said: “Some falsely teach that the Christian concept of salvation by grace is the equivalent of a license to sin. This is absolutely false, because Biblical grace trains us to renounce ungodliness!”

Take special note of the last phrase: “…because Biblical grace trains us to renounce ungodliness.”

He is quoting Titus 2:11-12 which, in the ESV, reads:  “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness…”

But let’s read Titus 2:11-15, in context, and from a version not so watered-down:

“For the all-resurrecting grace of Elohim is revealed to all men;  and it teaches us to deny that which is without Elohim and worldly lusts, and to live in this world in sobriety and in uprightness and in the Fear of Elohim, looking for the blessed hope and the manifestation of the glory of the great Elohim and our Life-giver, Y’shua the Mashiyach who gave himself for us that he might recover us from all iniquity and purify for himself a new people who are zealous in good works. These things speak and encourage and point out with all authority; and let no one despise you.” (AENT).

Here, the verse quoted says “it teaches us to deny that which is without Elohim and worldly lusts”! In this verse, Paul, in his letter to Titus, is NOT simply saying “Biblical grace trains us to renounce ungodliness” as if “grace” somehow negates one’s actions and magically renders all personal actions “godly”! Not at all!  Paul is saying instead that “grace” is a gift for all people who accept it and become zealous in good works!

Paul is saying that people have been given a chance to abandon, to deny, that “which is without Elohim and worldly lusts”! Indeed, Paul goes on to say  that those who are thus “purified” for YHWH are those who are “zealous in good works”!  That means that Christians who have been so taught, are, or should be ZEALOUS to obey God!  Not by “demands” or by “law”, but by the simple desire to please Him! (Leviticus 20:7 for example which reads: “And you shall set yourselves apart, and shall be set-apart, for I am יהוה your Elohim” – ISR).  Indeed, Leviticus 20:8 goes on to say: “and you shall guard [My statutes] and do them. I am יהוה, who sets you apart.”  Who, being “zealous”, would not want to guard and do God’s statutes?

Well, Christianity teaches that “grace” is some “get out of jail free” card – in Christianity there is no 7th-day Sabbat, no observance of the annual feasts, and no obedience, so absolutely YES, the Christian concept of “grace” is most certainly the equivalent of a license to sin! Few, if any, Christians are taught that “grace” only means that one’s sins are forgiven only up to that point that they accept the atoning death of the Messiah for their prior sins!  Upon acceptance, they are obligated to live a life “sin-free” as best they can! The term “grace”, simply is NOT a “permit to continue to sin and be forever forgiven”!  I’m sorry to break that news to you , but “grace” is not a blanket permit!

Folks, the fact that God said, repeatedly, “BE HOLY FOR I AM HOLY”, did not change just because the Messiah was sent to die and atone for all who accepted Him! People have always been expected to live their lives in a manner pleasing to God! THAT DID NOT CHANGE with the death and resurrection of the Messiah!  The phrase in Titus 2 which in some English versions reads “Biblical grace trains us to renounce ungodliness”, is not something that “just happens” to Christians! It is something that is supposed to be manifested in Christians as a DESIRE to abandon the things of the world and to live a life pleasing to God!  We are told what pleases God! It is in scripture!  But Christians, for the most part, are taught that all behaviors are “forgiven” because of this misunderstanding of the term “grace”.

  1. People like that exemplify that verse that says some are "always studying by never able to come to the knowledge of truth!" (2 Timothy 3:7)

  2. Yes. What is the measure of "ungodliness" to the Christian? His/her own rules? Titus 2:14 says: "Y’shua the Mashiyach who gave himself for us that he might recover us from all iniquity and purify for himself a new people who are zealous in good works." Iniquity is violation of Torah and "good works" are defined by Torah!

    1. Yes, we are aware of the article. We also teach that the woman of John 8:1-11 is an addition to the Bible, and the verses are actually against Torah.

    2. To me, that article as well as the one about the Sanctuary are literally eye opening. Your website as well www.masyhiyach.com has helped me tremendously understand the Bible much better than I did in the past.

  4. You need to read this

The fear I have is 4.4 Billion people that bought a lie from the Catholic Church instead of chosing the real (Yahawashi) Yeshua they choose the fake one Paul presents.

Paul to the Ephesians: "I am an apostle of Yeshua" Eps 1:1, Col 1:1, 1 Tim 1:1, 2 Timothy 1: 11,
The Ephesians to Paul: "No you're not." Acts 19,
Yeshua to the Ephesians: "Well done!" Rev 2: 2.

Read your prophecies. Paul is the Ravening Wolf from the Tribe of Benjamin (Genesis 49:27, Philippians 3:5-9, John 5:43, John 8:44, Acts 7:54-8:2, Isaiah 42:23-25, Matthew 7:15-23, John 5:43, Rev 2:2)
This was very shocking for me when I discovered it and is still troubling but it is a test from YHWH to see if we will follow Paul or His Son.

Ask yourself these questions: Why did Paul call Peter a hypocrite Galatians 2:11-13? Why did Paul steal 2 Corinthians 11:8? Put down the 12 Apostles and mock them 2 Corinthians 11:5? Say he wished people would get castrated Galatians 5:12? Change the story of Adam and Eve Romans 5:12? Change the story of Abraham in the Bible Romans 3:27-4:25? Say he was called by Jesus to lead the assembly when Peter was 1 Corinthians 3:10-11 & Matthew 16:18? Use lies and trickery to gain converts 2 Corinthians 12:16, Romans 3:7 & 2 Corinthians 12:20? Brag & Boast constantly Entire chapters on his letters count the personal pronouns and number of times he brags?

The Seven Churches in Revelation 5 with problems is because they were taught by and followed Paul's Teachings. Paul's message was completely contradictory to Son's Message. If you follow Paul's teachings you end up like 4.4 Billion Christians thinking the law was done away with. The Churches in Revelation are GENTILE CHURCHES and Yeshua totally expects them to be doing the law.

    1. If you read Paul in context carefully when he appears to contradict scripture and Messiah, it is against Pharisees that have infiltrated the Body of Believers and are teaching works based Salvation--Every Time. If you look at these Proof texts by the Church, Paul is simply saying the Law and Circumcision won't save you, but he doesn't say they are not required (with the possible exception of circumcision for Gentiles). A look at this in the Greek English Interlinear frequently gives a different view than all the translation and Bible versions we have today.

  5. Choosing Paul over The Son's Words can cost you eternity. Those words were added in 397 CE by the Whole of Babylon see Bible Cannon and how the Bible was formed. The early Christians rebuked Paul. The Books do not need to be removed God left them on purpose so we know truth. The Book has been changed or we would not have Bibles that have gone from 90 Books to 66.?

Look at Paul's statements on the Law
Galatians 5: 1 For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.(The Law)

    Galatians 5:4-5
4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. (lol don't keep the law you might lose your grace)

1 Corinthians 8 8 But food will not commend us to God

1 Corinthians 8 9 But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. (Sin is only sin if your conscience is weak)

Philippians 3: 8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it (the Law) all as garbage (Original Greek this word is dung or rubbish), so that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ (The Devil's Antichrist because Yahshua Never Taught this) .[a] For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith

2Cor 3:13 We are not like Moses, who used to put a veil over his face so that the Israelites could not stare at the the end of what was fading away

    Galatians 5:2
2 Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. (Circumcisum is the Law of Yahweh)

    Romans 2:14–15
14 For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, 15 in that they show athe work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them

    Romans 3 : 28
28 So we are made right with God through faith and not by obeying the law.

Romans : 3 : 30 There is only one God, and he makes people right with himself only by faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles.

    Romans 7:6
6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

Can you really say that teachings only grace and no law is correct is right in light of Rev 3:22?
Revelation 3: 22 Wake up, and strengthen and reaffirm what remains [of your faithful commitment to Me], which is about to die; for I have not found [any of] your deeds completed in the sight of My God or meeting His requirements.,
In light of Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

There is a day coming soon when all will stand before YHWH and give an account and I fear for those who choose Paul's fake christ over the Real Son. I am not going to be one of them. It will be hard to defend your case when the proof is in the Bible you read everyday. What will you tell the Father on your judgment day?

  6. Thanks for your comments, but it seems you have severely misunderstood the writings of Paul and are still viewing them through "Greek" eyes. We would recommend you obtain and Aramaic English New Testament https://www.aent.org/ which serves to correct many misunderstandings, and puts the writings of Paul back into their proper Hebraic context.

  7. Yahawashi? What in the heck is that and where are you getting your info from? Like I mentioned above, you need to obtain an AENT and stop dabbling in this anti-Paul rhetoric. Please read just one of our articles on Paul: http://therefinersfire.org/book_of_romans1.htm

I know from experience that, if you don't start changing your view about Paul and learn who he really was, your next move will be to reject Yeshua altogether. Tons of new "counter-missionaries" will attest to the fact that their first step toward rejecting Yeshua and the NT was due to their hatred of Paul.

    2. I see what your getting at, and Paul's summation or understanding doesn't trump Yehoshua HaMeshiach. If you look at the English / Greek Interlinear, and read Paul's text word for word, Paul doesn't contradict Yehosua, or Torah Law; all our Western Versions have a Heavy Roman / Greek slant in the Translations. You might really enjoy the Interlinear, and even with it, look up the meaning of some of the Greek Words not translated; their omission generally creates a Roman Slant!

    1. It was NEVER "Yahusha"! I could tell by the way you spell YHWH that you got your doctrine from a certain someone who used to own a "head shop" for 20-some years that was open on Shabbat.... According to a colleague - a native Hebrew and Aramaic SCHOLAR - all the weird spellings of the "Sacred Names" are bogus. Why?

Because our Messiah's Name is Y'shua, plain and simple. Y'shua means "YHWH is Salvation." There is no "correct" pronunciation or spelling of the transliteration of His Hebrew Name, yet many insist on arguing this issue. What matters is the Hebrew spelling of His Name which is: YUD HEY VAV HEY.

Some insist His Name in English is spelled "Yeshua" or "Y'shua" (there's even one group who insists on "Yahusha"); while others will damn you to hell if you don't adhere to their preferred spelling of "Yahshua."
There are even those who insist that Y'shua is NOT the Name of our Messiah at all - suggesting that the Name is simply a transliteration of the Greek "Iesus" or "Jesus"! One "Messianic radio personality" insists the Messiah's name is "Emmanu EL" - which is totally absurd, because "Emmanuel" is a mere title! A footnote in the AENT to Matthew 1:25 says:

The Tanakh records the name Y’shua (Jeshua) 30 times, Y’hoshua (Joshua) 199 times. Y’shua is the shortened form of Y’hoshua, the same name given to Mashiyach. The successor of Moses, Yehoshua (Joshua), is a type of Mashiyach, who brought the Israelites into the promised land. Additionally, yeshua (salvation) used 78 times is the passive participle of yasha (save or savior), which is used 205 times. “I have waited for your yeshua (salvation), O YHWH.” Genesis 49:18.

    1. By rejecting Paul - who taught Gentiles about YHWH and Yeshua - you ARE, in effect, rejecting Yeshua because you're attempting to debunk the one who wrote the most about him! You can't pick and choose what to believe of Scripture. You must either believe ALL of it or NONE of it! Nobody today (especially the "armchair experts" and all those who have written their own Bible "versions" containing their own slanted views) has the market cornered on Truth. Everything we need to know about God and the Bible is IN the Bible, and to reject any part of it reveals a desire to CHANGE what YHWH gave us....

      A lesson from Luke 22:

This man was also with him.” 57. But he denied it and said, “Woman, I do not know him!” 58. And after a little while another saw him and said to him, “You are also with them.” But Keefa said, “I am not!” 59. And after one hour another was affirming and said, “Truly this man was also with him, for he is even a Galilean.” 60. Keefa said, “Man I do not know what you are saying!” And immediately while he spoke, the cock crowed. 61. And Y’shua turned and stared at Keefa and Shimon remembered the word of our Master that he had spoken to him, that “Before the cock will crow, you will deny me three times.” 62. And Shimon went outside and wept bitterly

19 “‘I know your works, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your latter works exceed the first. 20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols. 21 I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality. 22 Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works, 23 and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you according to your works. 24 But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some call the deep things of Satan, to you I say, I do not lay on you any other burden. 25 Only hold fast what you have until I come. 26 The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations, 27 and he will rule[c] them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father. 28 And I will give him the morning star. 29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’ A certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one who worshiped God, heard us; whose heart the Lord opened to listen to the things which were spoken by Paul. When she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and stay." So she persuaded us.
