Dispelling some of the myths surrounding the “synagogue of satan” and “those who say they are Jews and are not"

Let’s dispel some of the hateful myths surrounding the “synagogue of satan” and “those who say they are Jews and are not."

Revelation 2: 9. I know your works and the affliction and the poverty (yet you are rich) and the railing which is from them who say they are Jews and they are not, but are of the congregation of haSatan.

Revelation 3: 9 Here, I will give you some from the synagogue of the Adversary, those who call themselves Jews but aren't - on the contrary, they are lying - see, I will cause them to come and prostrate themselves at your feet, and they will know that I have loved you. 10 Because you did obey my message about persevering, I will keep you from the time of trial coming upon the whole world to put the people living on earth to the test. (CJB)

Many people seem to be under the erroneous impression that these verses refer to any Jew who doesn’t believe that Y’shua is the Messiah. “Jews are evil.” “Jews killed Jesus.” Blah, blah, blah. (Just this morning, I saw a post where some “Black Hebrew Israelite” wrote that the Jews in Israel today are all “fake Jews”. Strangely enough, this divisive group also believes that anyone who isn’t black cannot claim to be a Jew.)

The fights and arguments are endless – and isn’t ironic that, in the midst of all these silly divisions, EVERYBODY wants to be a Jew? For instance, one of the first things people will do once they find their way to Torah is knock themselves out to show that they have “Jewish heritage.”

Anyway, back to those verses …

When read in context, it’s clear that they refer to people in those days claiming the Jewish faith, perhaps pretending, perhaps espousing faith but teaching something else causing strife. (Not unlike the false teachers of today!)

While clearly applicable to any community where believers are oppressed or persecuted by non-believers, John was addressing the Messianic assemblies, not the world in general! He was not suggesting that there were "fake Jews" all over who somehow would occupy the Land. And it certainly doesn’t mean that modern-day Israel is occupied by "fake Jews" today!

Actually, to put "synagogue" in the above passages inadvertently implies that all Jews are meeting with the "devil" - but that is clearly not in the original message! John was talking about an "evil assembly" or a conspiratorial group who desired the destruction of believers, an evil assembly who may or may not be of Jewish bloodline – including the Jewish "establishment" who are clearly fearful of Jews who preach Mashiyach (Messiah) Y’shua and Torah!

John was NOT making a wholesale indictment against his own people!

Unfortunately, those verses in Revelation 2 and 3 have ended up being mantras for the self-righteous haters of the world to promote their hatred of the Jews. They are THE reason why we wrote this in-depth article for our website that reveals why all their sick assertions are just plain WRONG: https://therefinersfire.org/synagogue_of_satan.htm
