I was an avid Nancy Drew mysteries fan when I was 12. always trying to solve the mysteries, myself, in hopes of beating the teenage sleuth to the draw. (And I often succeeded!) I LOVED Nancy Drew books!
They were great teaching tools that caused us to think. learn and grow, all while remaining wrapped in the innocence of youth. There was no cussing, no sex nor real violence - just great story lines for young teenage girls. (Total disclosure, I was a Hardy Boys fan, too, helping them solve their respective mysteries.)
Anyway, I've never watched any Nancy Drew TV shows, but imagine my shock to hear on this morning's CBS Sunday Morning Program, that Nancy Drew has been "updated and made more real" for the new TV series. The interview included a short clip featuring the opening scene of the latest show, in which we see Nancy rising from her bed after a sexual liaison!
Wait - WHAT?!?
That's right. Nancy has been revamped for a more "mature audience" according to the spokes person for the Nancy Drew show.
Well, I was rendered speechless, to say the least - but not surprised, because our world hasn't been "innocent" for several decades now. For Americans, it all started going downhill the day we kicked God and prayer out of public schools and government buildings back in 1962.
One has to wonder what kind of a world we live in, where children of ALL ages are constantly bombarded with sex, cussing and violence.
It's certainly NOT the world ADONAI envisioned when He created mankind....
Romans 12:2. And be not conformed to this world; but be you transformed by the renovation of your minds: and discern you what is the good and acceptable and perfect pleasure of Elohim. 3. And, by the grace given to me, I say to you all: Do not carry thoughts beyond what you should think; but think with modesty, as Elohim has distributed to each one his measure of faith. (AENT)
