A wonderful mini-lesson on 1 Timothy 6

What an awesome passage! What an awesome message....

1 Timothy 6:3. But if there be anyone, who teaches a different doctrine and does not agree to the foundational Words of our Master Y’shua the Mashiyach and to the doctrine of the Fear of Elohim,[1] 4. he is one that exalts himself while he knows nothing; and he languishes in the search and inquiry about words from which come envy and contention and railing and evil suspicions 5. and the constant arguing of men whose minds are corrupt and devoid of the truth, and who suppose that gain is without Elohim. But from these stand away.

6. But great is our gain which is the Fear of Elohim, with the use of our competence. 7. For we brought nothing into the world; and we know that we can carry nothing out of it. 8. Therefore, food and clothing satisfy us. 9. But they who desire to become rich fall into temptations and into snares and into many lusts which are foolish and hurtful and which drown men in destruction and destruction: 10. for the love of money is the root of all these evils. And there are some who, coveting it, have erred from the faith and brought themselves into many sorrows.

11. But you, O man of Elohim, flee from these things and follow after righteousness and rectitude, and faith and love, and patience and humility. 12. And contend in the good contest of faith; and lay hold of life eternal to which you are called and (of which) you have confessed a good confession before many witnesses. (AENT)

A footnote in the AENT explains the deeper meaning:

Isaiah 11:2-3 “And the Spirit of YHWH shall rest upon him, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Might, the Spirit of Knowledge and of the Yirah (Fear) of YHWH; And shall make him of quick understanding in the Yirah (Fear) of YHWH:” A picture of the Menorah is seen here with its seven branches.

The center is the Spirit of YHWH while the six other attributes are joined into the center pillar. These seven Spirits also signify perfection or completeness. The Fear of YHWH Elohim is a “Spirit” of YHWH; it is a vital spiritual quality for Life in Mashiyach. The Fear of YHWH is a personal guide; Hebrew yirah means fear, as in fear/awesome/terrifying contrary to Christian teaching that the Fear of YHWH is not really “fear” but love and respect.

Isaiah 29:13 reveals how “the Fear of YHWH is taught by the commandment of men”; in other words, man’s religious theology and tradition has made void the Fear of YHWH. Many Christians prefer the term “reverence” over “fear”; Christians also use a title of “Reverend” for their clergymen and ministers; therefore, the term “Fear of YHWH” was first negated and then given a theological/semantic twist to apply to their own leadership, as in the case of “reverend.”

The Fear of YHWH is noted throughout Scripture; B’resheet/Genesis 20:11; 42:18; Shemot/Exodus 9:30; 18:21; Vayikra/Leviticus 25:17; D’varim/Deuteronomy 10:12 and in more than a hundred places. Without the Spirit of the Fear of YHWH, people will fear man, materialism, relativism and all form of idols, including their religious leaders.

A few notes about the beginning of our trek into Exodus

This week’s parsha was absolutely wonderful as several amazing events happened that revealed how short man’s memory is! I mean, can you believe that the new Pharaoh didn't know anything about Yosef who had saved Egypt from the great famine and helped Pharaoh increase his wealth? That, in itself, suggests that many, many years had passed. Scripture does that a lot. We often see someone's entire life outlined in just a couple of sentences or paragraphs - but yet, we still get the gist of the story or the lesson we are to learn.

Anyway, turning to Moshe (who seemingly overnight grew from a baby into an adult hero used by YHWH to free Israel from their 400 years of slavery ... Have you ever given much thought to the "burning bush" that Moshe encountered in Exodus 3, where when he received a visit from an "angel of ADONAI in a fire blazing from the middle of a bush?" How awesome this must have been! We can only imagine the terror and amazement Moshe must have experienced.

When Moshe moved in closer to examine this phenomenon, he was told by YHWH to remove his sandals because he was standing on holy ground (Exodus 3:5).

My random thoughts are - and I might be wrong - that this could very well be where the Muslim "final prophet" Muhammed [who borrowed many of his ideas from Torah] got his idea that everyone must remove their shoes before entering the mosques, which are supposedly "holy ground."

But, what I also saw in this passage was that man doesn’t necessarily have to travel to some far-away "holy" site to “meet God” or undergo some personal transformation! YHWH can meet us anywhere He wishes!

One nation, high and overdosed!

I don’t know about you, but it worries me that yet more states have legalized recreational pot use.  My first husband (back when I was young and idealistic) was a drug addict who accidentally killed a friend of his in Vietnam while high on Heroin – something that not only ruined his life, but also the lives of his family who had to live with the knowledge that one of their own took someone else’s life in such a manner.

Chuck would take whatever would give him a “high”.  He would lie, cheat, steal and use our last dollar to get a “fix” – and he would do all kinds of stupid things while he was high … and then laugh it off with the excuse, “Well, you can’t hold it against me, babe. I was high.”  Our “friends” consisted of nothing but drug addicts and bums, and I wondered how I could have been stupid enough to allow myself to be dragged down into such muck and mire, because I’ve always been “straight.”  I didn’t “do” drugs and absolutely hated the smell of pot and whatever else Chuck and his friends would smoke.

Whenever I threatened to leave, he would use his - “Babe, I need you to help me get straight; I can’t do it without you!” - card.  “But Chuck, you’ve had two horrific car accidents in the last six months, that put people in the hospital - and you’ve lost your driving privilege in this state forever!”  “Well, yeah babe, but I was HIGH!!”

Our marriage lasted two years, and it was two years of absolute hell.  There came a point when I realized the only “help” he REALLY needed from me was my income! He had been using me all along, because I was the only one dumb enough to believe he really needed my help!  (We were both in the Army, and back then, the pay was pretty dismal, which meant, neither of us had money to spare.)  So, needless to say, I had finally had enough of Chuck by the time he killed his friend in Vietnam. There was NO doubt in my mind that he would kill me one day, and I wasn’t about to stick around to let some moronic drug addict take my life….

Bottom line:  I saw firsthand what happens to those who have no self-control or self-respect.  Back then, living among these druggies, I came to see how most don’t WANT to come out of the lifestyle.  They LIKE it!  They think it’s cool.  They will do whatever it takes to maintain that lifestyle, using the gullible for support, in any way they can.

Therefore, I don’t care what excuses pro-pot people are advocating!  I posit that legalizing pot (or any other “recreational drug”) is a dangerous move because way too many have NO common sense and will abuse the privilege!  The National Institute on Drug Abuse says that Marijuana CAN be addictive; so, we can pretty much do the math on the results of that….

Some don’t even have the common sense to recognize the symptoms of “getting hooked” on prescribed drugs (which is part of the reason we have an “opioid epidemic” today). Instead of realizing, “Gosh, I’m getting too dependent on this stuff,” they just go with it and let the chips fall wherever they may. 

"Medical use” is one thing; but legalizing another way to “get high” is dangerous on many, many levels!  Bill and I have witnessed plenty of “high” drivers since Colorado legalized Marijuana in 2012 – and let me tell you, it’s NO fun driving behind someone like that, or standing in line at the grocery store next to someone who reeks of weed!  It’s NAUSEATING!

And please - there's no need to even bother defending weed by attempting to show that it's in the Bible, and "God made herbs for us to use!" Pro-weed advocates will twist Scripture in their efforts to convince you that God created everything and He said it was “good.” That argument does not address the problem that not all plants that are part of creation are edible, nor the fact that the original creation was impacted by sin, which means that some things created may no longer be in their original state. One must use common sense and wisdom when discerning the use of something made by ELOHIM! Remember that hemlock and poison mushrooms are part of creation but are deadly as food….

If Marijuana was God-ordained, then WHY are there so many scriptures telling people NOT to be “high”? YHWH has made it clear that He does NOT want HIS people to be “drunk” – no matter what the medium! While Scripture does not talk about pot, per se, it DOES prohibit “strong drink” and being drunk – things that cause us to be impaired. Here are just a few examples for you to consider:

Ephesians 5: 14. Therefore it is said: Awake you who are asleep and arise from the dead, and the Mashiyach will illuminate you.  15. See therefore, that you walk with spiritual knowledge; not like the simple,  16. But like the wise who purchase their opportunity; because the days are evil.  17. Therefore, do not lack in understanding; but understand what is the will of Elohim.  18. And don’t be drunk with wine in which is rebellion; but be filled with the Spirit.  19. And converse with yourselves in psalms and hymns; and with your hearts sing to Master YHWH in spiritual songs.  20. And give thanks to Elohim the Father at all times for all men in the name of our Master Y’shua the Mashiyach.  (AENT)

Just something to think about as America heads towards legalizing something that is only going to serve “the economy” – while committing its victims quickly into the pit.

Counter-missionary comment: “God never required HUMAN sacrifices!”

The counter-missionaries are at it again. This time, they're picking on the idea that "Jesus was a human sacrifice - and God NEVER required human sacrifice!"

News flash! Yeshua was not sacrificed; he martyred himself - against which, there is no law!

One must look at the situation for what it was, and not as a "human sacrifice!" First, we must remember that the Passover lamb was not sacrificed and offered to YHWH. The lamb's blood was a substitute for the humans. Second, Yeshua was not "human" in the same vein as we are. His body was "human", but his qnoma (nature) was entirely divine. So, in that sense, if someone insists on calling His death a "sacrifice", was not a "human sacrifice."

As the lamb of the original Passover, Yeshua was killed, not "sacrificed"! His death was metaphorical. He was the sinless being who bore OUR sins, and died for us, so WE could be spared - that one time (Isaiah 53). Scripture says that the Messiah's death would be "like" a lamb led to slaughter (Isaiah 53:7); not that His substitution WAS a slaughter of sacrifice.

The word "sacrifice" does not have to mean "bloody animal killing", but it can simply mean "in place of". Though the statement that human sacrifice "later became accepted and necessary by Christianity" is largely accurate, we must say that this is only another example of the error of Christian theology, and not a justification for denying that "Jesus" was the Messiah.

Furthermore, those who insist Yeshua is NOT the Messiah for whatever reason, please read Isaiah 11 and Isaiah 53! The chapters aren't that long, but they're powerful, and those with "eyes to see" will understand. The Bible says what it says, but the "religious" have always and will always twist the meaning of certain passages. That is why it is very important for each individual to READ ALL OF THE BIBLE for themselves - from start to finish; not just peck around in it and then pretend they are knowledgeable scholars.

“The Holy Spirit told me”….

Ever noticed how many people attempt to credit God with things He never said or did?  When you insist "The Ruach told me," you'd best make sure the Ruach told you, lest you be guilty of breaking the 3rd Commandment. It's very dangerous to attribute something to ADONAI that He didn't say....

Exodus 20:7 "You are not to use lightly the name of ADONAI your God, because ADONAI will not leave unpunished someone who uses his name lightly. (CJB)

Bible warns: Take heed!

Here is a stern warning from Scripture, which basically says it all. It's sad that so many believers attempt to put ELOHIM in a box and turn His Word into a Smorgasbord where they are able to pick and choose and twist, according to whatever their desire happens to be at the time. YHWH's Word says what it says, no matter how much we try to skew it....
