Does the BIble forbid intermarriage?

Reader comment:

The Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, clearly forbids miscegenation (mixture of races). Miscegenation is equally detrimental to members of all human racial demographics. The hysterical minions of the politically correct masses will still consider this to be "racism" but the evil, self-indulgent whims of their idolatrous, "multi-cultural" democracies do not decide my values: The God of the holy Bible, HIS only begotten son, and HIS Torah constitute my moral compass.

Our response:

While it is commendable that you desire to adhere to YHWH and His Scriptures, we can't find one single passage in the Bible that "clearly forbids miscegenation." Some of the references that miscegenation proponents attempt to show as "proof" of miscegenation include the following:

Exodus 34: 10 He said, "Here, I am making a covenant; in front of all your people I will do wonders such as have not been created anywhere on earth or in any nation. All the people around you will see the work of ADONAI. What I am going to do through you will be awesome! 11 Observe what I am ordering you to do today. Here! I am driving out ahead of you the Emori, Kena'ani, Hitti, P'rizi, Hivi and Y'vusi. 12 Be careful not to make a covenant with the people living in the land where you are going, so that they won't become a snare within your own borders.

13 Rather, you are to demolish their altars, smash their standing-stones and cut down their sacred poles; 14 because you are not to bow down to any other god; since ADONAI -whose very name is Jealous -is a jealous God. 15 Do not make a covenant with the people living in the land. It will cause you to go astray after their gods and sacrifice to their gods. Then they will invite you to join them in eating their sacrifices, 16 and you will take their daughters as wives for your sons. Their daughters will prostitute themselves to their own gods and make your sons do the same! (CJB)

Is the above talking about "races"? No! It's talking about refraining from paganism! YHWH's concern was that marrying outside the faith would cause Israel to turn away from God. The command is similar to what we read in the below: 2 Corinthians 6: 14 Do not yoke yourselves together in a team with unbelievers. For how can righteousness and lawlessness be partners? What fellowship does light have with darkness? (CJB)

1 Corinthians 7: 39 A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives, but if the husband dies she is free to marry anyone she wishes, provided he is a believer in the Lord. (CJB)

When read in context we see that Scripture never tells us that we cannot engage in interracial marriage; but rather, they clearly refer to the shunning of PAGANISM. Whenever a father says to a son, "Promise me you won't marry a ___ woman..." he is referring to the fact that she and her people do not believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It had nothing to do with race - and if it did, then it was because of prejudice, not because of any command from YHWH.

Plus, if you'll remember, Moshe (Moses) married an Ethiopean woman....You can twist that scripture until you're blue in the face, but Ethiopeans - especially thousands of years ago - were NOT white people! Numbers 12:1 Miryam and Aharon began criticizing Moshe on account of the Ethiopian woman he had married, for he had in fact married an Ethiopian woman.

YHWH created all races and they ALL originated from Havah (Eve), the "mother of all living" (Gen. 3:20), which means Adam and Havah must have had children of all colors and "races" (and then again, Noah, whose family repopulated the Earth) who ultimately congregated with their "own kind" and went off to various parts of the world. It is ludicrous to think that Africans became black - as some suggest - just because they lived in a warm climate. If that's the case, then how come Black people who have lived in the U.S., for instance, for two hundred years, aren't "devolving" and becoming white? Or how come Australia (which is hot) has a huge population of Whites who have never, over hundreds of years, turned Black? Or how do we explain the fact that Orientals have slanted eyes? Did the climate or conditions in China and Japan and Thailand cause that?

The bottom line is, we won't know for sure all the answers to these questions until we get our eternal bodies. Until then, all we can do is speculate. But anyone who has read the Bible through the help of the Ruach haKodesh (Holy Spirit) can understand that YHWH never told us not to fall in love with, or refrain from marrying someone of another race.

    1. You're welcome! We never cease to be amazed at the ways people attempt to twist Scripture!

  2. Which is exactly why I answer the "race" question on the US Census: "Other: Human"
White is a color, not a race. Black is a color, not a race. "Hispanic" is an ethnic group, not a race. Asian is a locale, not a race.
    You nailed it, sister!
